چکیده

We see then that here, just as in the case of diatomic molecules, the permanent moment of the molecules and the part of the dielectric constant due to it are related by Debye's equation derived on the classical theory provided the temperature is sufficiently high. As regards the behavior of the bands emitted by dipole-molecules of the kind considered in an electric field, there should be a linear Stark effect for all lines arising from transitions between states for which n is different from zero, as may be seen directly from (7) and (3). The deflection of the molecules in an electric Stern-Gerlach experiment of the kind described in the previous paper' can be easily predicted, too, by introducing the value of P determined by equations (4), (3) and (5) into the formula for the deflection. The roles of microtubules in tropisms

Plant tropisms, or growth towards or away from a stimulus, usually involve the bending of shoots or roots which reorient growth in a newdirection. Plant responses to tropic cues, especially gravity and light, have been active areas of investigation for many years. Despite all of this attention we still do not understand how these responses are regulated. In this review possible roles for microt...

RNA Viruses: A Case Study of the Biology of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

There are 180 currently recognized species of RNA virus that can infect humans, and on average, 2 new species are added every year. RNA viruses are routinely exchanged between humans and other hosts (particularly other mammals and sometimes birds) over both epidemiological and evolutionary time: 89% of human-infective species are considered zoonotic and many of the remainder have zoonotic origi...

Logic and Biology: Emotional inference and emotions in reasoning

Before planning and reasoning, there were tropisms. Tropisms have functions and make use of information detected, but they don't, I assume, involve any actual reasoning. Somewhere along the course of evolution, and at some time in any one of us on the way from zygote to adult, some forms of detection became beliefs, and some tropisms turned into reasoned desires. And at some stage—perhaps, if Q...

Biodiversity Conservation of Reptiles and Mammals in the Khorasan Provinces, Northeast of Iran

The reptile and mammals fauna of North-East of Iran were investigated and the contraction and fragmentation of some species due to climatic changes and human activities were analyzed. The sampling was carried out in selected stations throughout the Great Khorsan. The results showed that there are approximately 71 reptiles (including 39 species of lizards, 32 snakes and one turtle) and 83 specie...

Light and gravity signals synergize in modulating plant development

Tropisms are growth-mediated plant movements that help plants to respond to changes in environmental stimuli. The availability of water and light, as well as the presence of a constant gravity vector, are all environmental stimuli that plants sense and respond to via directed growth movements (tropisms). The plant response to gravity (gravitropism) and the response to unidirectional light (phot...
